For students

Turn textbooks and course readings into audio

Get through the reading list on the bus. Drop the chapter PDF, the handout or the set text and listen at your own speed. Page numbers and running headers stay out of the narration.

Your reading list, done on the move

A 40-page chapter is about 90 minutes of listening at a normal pace: one commute, one run, one walk across campus. Do the first pass by ear, then come back with a pen for the parts that matter. Before the exam, a second listen shows you what stuck.

Made for the way course material arrives

•
PDF chapters: headings become chapters, page numbers and running headers disappear, paragraphs split across pages are joined.
•
Follow along in the PDF view: the words light up on the page as they are read.
•
Word handouts and notes narrate cleanly. “Chapter”, “Part” and numbered headings become sections.
•
Speed from 0.75x to 2x, a sleep timer for late-night review, bookmarks for the parts you will be tested on.
•
Start on the laptop in the library, carry on from your phone. Your place follows you.

Three steps

1.
Drop the file here, or share it to the Book2Speech app on iPhone.
2.
Pick a narrator. A calm, clear voice suits dense material.
3.
Press play and follow the highlighted text, or just listen.

Questions people ask

Does it work on scanned readings?

Yes, when the scan has a text layer, which many scanner apps add for you. A scan that is only images has no words to read, so run it through OCR first.

Can I upload a whole textbook?

Files go up to 10 MB. For a big textbook, upload the chapters you need.

How are equations and tables read?

As the text the PDF holds, so check formulas and dense tables on screen. Prose is where listening shines.

Is there a free option?

Yes. Free includes unlimited Standard voices in English and 10 minutes of Premium voices, so English readings cost nothing to listen to.
