How long will your audiobook take? Start with words, pages or the length of a recording. Choose a playback speed to see your listening time, or turn audiobook hours into an approximate page count.
Word count
Playback speed (0.5–4×)
Estimate the original narration length, then choose your listening speed.
Listening time at 1×

Narration pace (words/min)
150 words/min is a starting estimate. Pauses, dialogue and the narrator change the actual length.
Listening time is an estimate, not a plan allowance. Faster playback does not reduce the amount of narration generated for an audiobook download.
How long is a 200-page audiobook?
At 275 words per page and 150 spoken words per minute, a 200-page book is about 6 hours 7 minutes at normal speed. At 1.5× playback, it takes about 4 hours 4 minutes.
Page layouts vary, so 275 words per page is an editable assumption, not a measurement of your book. Use the word count when you have it. Dialogue, pauses, footnotes and narration style can change the final recording.
Calculate listening time at 1.25×, 1.5× or 2×
Choose Audiobook length and enter the duration shown at 1×. Listening time is the original duration divided by playback speed. A 10-hour audiobook takes 8 hours at 1.25×, 6 hours 40 minutes at 1.5×, or 5 hours at 2×.
To work out time remaining, enter only the remaining duration shown at normal speed. If your player already adjusts its remaining-time display for your chosen speed, do not divide that number again.
How many pages is an 8-hour audiobook?
At 150 words per minute and 275 words per page, 8 hours of original narration represents about 262 pages. One hour represents about 33 pages. These are estimates: different editions can have very different page counts.
Choose Audiobook length and adjust the narration pace and words per page. The page estimate uses the original recording length; playing it faster does not change the amount of text.
The formulas behind the calculator
•
Words to minutes: word count ÷ narration pace in words per minute.
•
Pages to minutes: page count × words per page ÷ narration pace.
•
Playback time: original minutes ÷ playback speed.
•
Audiobook to pages: original minutes × narration pace ÷ words per page.
Turn the book you own into an audiobook
Book2Speech reads EPUB, PDF and Word files with a narrator you choose. Use the matching converter to try your own book, or compare M4B and MP3 if you want a downloadable audiobook.
The calculator estimates listening time, not billing or download eligibility. Premium narration in the Editor uses your plan’s Editor allowance; playback speed does not reduce generated narration. Check Plans for current allowances and maximum download lengths.
About 10 hours at 150 words per minute. At 1.5× playback, that is about 6 hours 40 minutes. The actual recording depends on the narrator and pauses.
Can I calculate an audiobook’s remaining listening time?
Yes. Choose Audiobook length, enter the remaining hours and minutes at normal speed, then set your playback speed. Do not use a remaining-time figure that your player has already adjusted for speed.
Does this calculator convert an audio file into a book?
No. It estimates time and page counts; it does not transcribe audio or upload a file. Book2Speech’s converters turn your ebook or document into narration.
Does faster playback use fewer Premium narration hours?
Playback time and generated narration are different. Speeding up a finished audiobook does not reduce the amount of audio generated for an Editor download. See your plan for listening and Editor allowances.
